In this workshop:
  • Identify the characteristics of graphics that engage learners
  •  Describe how to adopt broadcast graphics for learning
  •  Understand the utility and production of four types of graphics: infographics, lower thirds, transitions, and loopable backgrounds
How does this topic relate to the conference theme, Reinvent?
Many in instructional design mistakenly think that visual design is about making content pretty-- it's not.  Good design enhances the meaning of instruction, creates credibility, and engages learners.  However, visual design is often ignored by instructional designers.

This session encourages participants to Reinvent visual design within the industry-- and make it a primary factor. Learners are not comparing learning media to other learning experiences-- they compare it to other media. YouTube, Netflix, and video games are the comparison points.

This session makes the point that engaging visual design is one of the paths that, if adopted, will allow us to reinvent online instruction and compete with other media.

Mindset: The Gateway to Reinventing Yourself

  • Learn distinctions of Mindsets and the Mindset Continuum
  •  Identify where you fall across the various categories of the Mindset Continuum
  • Design and Commit to three (3) actions to leverage your mindset to support the process of reinventing yourself
By attending this session, participants will enhance the following PERSONAL Capabilities:
  • Emotional Intelligence and Decision-Making – shifting mindset supports developing the skill of identifying personal biases that influence one’s own cognition and behavior
  • Lifelong Learning – mindset influences one’s desire to learn, which can lead to the expansion and development of knowledge and skills over time
How does this topic relate to the conference theme, Reinvent?
One definition of the word reinvent is “change something so much that it appears to be entirely new.” The process of reinvention may include, among other things, practicing self-reflection, being honest with and believing in oneself, asking for support, learning new things, considering different options, and seeing possibilities. These occur on the foundation of self-understanding and self-awareness, which is greatly influenced and impacted by the mindset one brings to the process. So Mindset is an essential component of Reinventing Oneself.

Drips, Bots and Blogs: A Non-Traditional Approach to Learning Reinforcement

In a recent Bersin by Deloitte report, it was stated that 80% of CEOs believe upskilling is their most pressing challenge. This means retraining and upskilling continue to be critical to the modern workforce. This said - large workloads, packed schedules, and a dispersed employee base impose a barrier to providing the learning needed to address the upskilling needs of a modern workforce. For learning professionals, this means delivering reinforcement programs produced in scheduled, manageable bites. Thus, giving people a chance to apply lessons, wherever they may be in a hybrid workplace.

This session will help you learn the first steps on how to plan and organize curriculum into spaced and dripped learning reinforcement lessons. All by using a framework that can be easily replicated once back in the workplace. This immersive program will allow for creating conversational and engaging content to support your performance development efforts. Using a given scenario, and through several exercises, you will leave this session with new content and tool ideas to design, prototype, and build drip content that has real impact.

This session will break down into four phases.
1.    Phase one: Determine if you are addressing the right problem.
2.    Phase two: Map conversational content to help achieve a learning outcome.
3.    Phase three: Determine which delivery tools will give drip-feeding efforts the best chance for success.

Lastly, we will review examples of how to apply drip feeds to any organization. The amazing part will be the understanding that creating conversational design using bots, blogs, and email can be fun, and impactful. Therefore, demonstrating the combined value of spaced and self-directed dripped microlearning content.

How does this topic relate to the conference theme, Reinvent?
Using drip-feed learning reinvents the way L&D can use learning reinforcement to apply spaced learning techniques without causing workplace disruption. By providing spaced learning through dripped applications, we give knowledge a greater chance of sticking and give the people a better chance of knowledge application. This in turn adds greater value to all L&D initiatives. By doing so we create a win-win for the people and the business.
